Learn with S/O Dance

Wortham Rehearsal

As S/O Dance enters a new chapter, our approach to training and community engagement is evolving.

Rather than offering ongoing weekly classes, we will be hosting a variety of pop-up workshops, movement experiences, creative intensives, and special training opportunities throughout the year. These programs are designed to bring artists and community members together for meaningful movement exploration, creative collaboration, and contemporary dance practice.

Whether you're a professional dancer, emerging artist, or curious mover, we invite you to join us when opportunities arise.

Contemporary Partnerships is a two-day workshop focused on dancing in relationship with others, led by Gavin Stewart and Vanessa Owen. Through guided warm-ups, partnered improvisation, and excerpts of partnered choreography, you will investigate trust, weight-sharing, balance, momentum, and physical “listening.”

This workshop centers a non-binary approach to partnering, moving away from prescribed roles and creating opportunities for everyone to both give and receive weight, and to support and be supported.

Experience Level: Open to adults with at least two years of contemporary dance experience. This workshop will not involve heavy lifting, but dancers should be comfortable with respectful physical contact and prepared to both give and receive weight from another. Stewart and Owen will work with diverse bodies, strengths, and comfort levels through an adaptable, curious approach to partnering.

Please Note: Participants must be 18+ and commit to all 3 days in order to take part in the workshop.
