WORKSHOP: Move & Make

Join Artistic Directors Gavin Stewart and Vanessa Owen for a 3-day open level adult contemporary dance workshop held at UNC Asheville. Each day begins with technique class, followed by collaborative choreographic sessions.

​

The workshop culminates in an open rehearsal on the final day. Family, friends, and community members are welcome to attend and witness the work created the workshop.

DELVE, the Intensive

DELVE is a one-week program for emerging and early-career dance artists 18+.  Artists will train daily with guest faculty and Stewart/Owen co-directors Gavin Stewart and Vanessa Owen; honing their  technique and exploring improvisational practices, Stewart/Owen repertory, and a collaborative creative process. The week concludes with an informal studio showing that is open to the public, where DELVE artists share and discuss their work.

Join us for a special evening of dance, conversation, and storytelling at Malaprop’s and Story Parlor!
Local author, teacher, and former professional dancer Gavin Larsen will lead an evening inspired by her books Being a Ballerina and Infinite Steps. We’ll join Gavin for a conversation about the dancer’s mindset, the intersection of dance and identity, and the ways dance can become an expression, a definition, and a home.
 

We’re looking forward to sharing this conversation and connecting with our local dance and literary communities in a different way!

WORKSHOP: Contemporary Partnerships 

WNC Dance Academy

Explore physical conversations between dancers in this 2-day contemporary partnering workshop with S/O Dance.

Through warm-ups, partnered improvisations, and excerpts of partnered choreography, you’ll work with trust, weight-sharing, balance, momentum, and physical “listening.”

The workshop's approach to partnering moves beyond traditional roles, giving you opportunities to both lead and follow, give and receive weight, support and be supported. You’ll explore how different bodies, strengths, and instincts can work together through an adaptable and curious approach to partnering.

S/OURCE Winter Intensive at UNCSA

Winston-Salem, NC

The S/OURCE Winter Intensive is a gradual return to training for University North Carolina School of the Arts students following winter break, led by S/O Artistic Directors Gavin Stewart and Vanessa Owen with UNCSA faculty.

 

Students refresh their technique, explore S/O repertory, regain strength through targeted conditioning, and restore with focused mindfulness sessions. Along with professional development, participants receive audition feedback from active professional artists.

 

Created in partnership with S/O Dance and the UNCSA School of Dance, with support from the Thomas S. Kenan Institute for the Arts.​​

WNCDA Benefit Concert

S/O Dance will perform as guests in WNC Dance Academy's annual Winter Benefit Concert featuring the students of the WNCDA Repertory Ensemble. A rare opportunity to see the progression from tiny dancers to professionals in this community, this performance always steals audience's hearts.

 

For the fourth year in a row, WNCDA will donate all proceeds from this performance to S/O Dance's scholarship fund for emerging dance artists attending DELVE: the intensive.
